In GoodNotes, on the other hand, the app only has three sizes on the toolbar at a time and no more. In Notability, your pen tool has all the sizes readily available for you to use any time you like. You effectively have to remember fewer numbers three or four instead of 0.25mm for GoodNotes. We prefer the sizes in Notability because they are easier to work with, though. GoodNotes’ pen measurement in millimetres and Notability’s fixed pen sizes are equally functional. But they do make fun shapes, though I can’t say I’ve found them to be of any use at all. Taking notes with them is not very practical at all. Notability also has some decorative pens: dashed and dotted. Digital pencils don’t have the same limitations that physical ones have. Pencil tools are always better than pen tools in every app, but I still can’t bring myself to use them for serious note-taking. Notability does not have a brush pen, it instead has a pencil tool. Notability even has better handwriting experience than GoodNotes, but that’s open for debate (like the Apple vs Samsung one). Even though GoodNotes has more options for your brush and fountain pens (pressure sensitivity and sharpness), the pens tools in the two apps are effectively the same. Generally, I always prefer fountain pens, but in GoodNotes the brush pen feels better. Both apps have fountain and ballpoint pens. Though the apps take different approaches to personalising your pen tools, they both provide a superb user experience. We love Notability’s approach, which contributes to the app’s minimalist look. Chances are, when you change a setting for a tool, it’s probably going to stay like that for years, maybe even forever. It makes them more accessible, but we don’t typically use settings often to need them in our workspaces. Notability’s settings are in one place, unlike in GoodNotes which has them scattered throughout the app. GoodNotes doesn’t have any theme options, but then again no other note-taking app does. You also get some themes in Notability that can change your UI colour, they are quite beautiful. Notability has a more minimalist user interface (UI) that doesn’t look as cluttered as GoodNotes. In both apps, we use our digital notebooks as we prefer them to all the templates available. In both apps, your custom templates have to be single pages, though. You can save custom page templates to the app libraries from either images or PDFs. No matter the page customisation options, sometimes it’s better to import your own, and both apps let you do this. You do have the option to not use covers if you want. That way you get to see what’s in your notebooks without having to open them. We find covers to be a disadvantage though, because it’s better to have no cover for your notebooks. It also has covers to make your notebooks look pretty on the homepage. GoodNotes has three colour options for your pages, which is not much. These also have line-spacing options which you won’t find in GoodNotes. Notability also has more page colours, even though they are limited to the basic templates in the app. GoodNotes’ shop is still new, so it doesn’t have many items. Notability, however, has a larger collection of page templates because of its gallery and premium templates. In either app, you get a respectable number of page sizes and orientations. Creating new notesĬreating new notes in both apps is fairly simple, and both apps have a lot of options for your notebooks. GoodNotes is now testing its betas for Windows and Android, but there is still no hope of getting Notability on either platform. Both apps are available on the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Notability is a yearly subscription starting at $11.99 for your first year, and renewing for $14.99. GoodNotes is a one-time, universal purchase of $7.99 with an in-app shop where you can buy some digital stationery (stickers, planners, digital notebooks, etc).

The long top tube stretched me out nicely over the bike and kept me in an efficient pedaling position that allowed me to put down some nice wattage. The Optic’s rear suspension remains relatively unaffected by pedaling forces and prevents most pedal-induced diving, both while pedaling in and out of the saddle. I mean this in the most respectful way, but youre probably riding it wrong. As a shorter human I find when I tackle steep terrain the rear tire likes to slap me in the butt, thats the main reasoning. The seat-tube angle of 76 degrees was a perfect choice for a trail bike that can be pedaled comfortably up low-angle cross-country trails and still keep the front wheel on the ground during some of our heinous, 18-percent-plus Pacific Northwest trail gradients. If you really want to do it, stick a 27.5 wheel in there and put a wide fluffy tyre on there, more comfort and it won’t change the geometry much. But the stars of the spec show were the low-volume, 2.35 Schwalbe tires: With a Magic Mary tread up front, you have cornering grip in steady supply for almost any dirt conditions. Furthermore, the stopping power of the Shimano BR-MT520 hydraulic brakes was sufficient for a 200-plus-pound rider like me, but the resin pads do raise some concerns for wet, Pacific Northwest rides-and the long, brake-burning descents that the Optic demands. A SRAM GX Eagle drivetrain affords dependable shifting for hundreds if not thousands of hard, off-road miles. The RockShox Pike Select Plus fork delivers excellent traction in a lightweight chassis, while giving some welcome compliance through rough sections of trail. The components on our C2 version cater to aggressive riders, with a RockShox Super Deluxe Ultimate DH rear shock allowing you to push the suspension hard, without fear of overheating or inconsistent damping. My size large had a 435-millimeter chainstay that added stability when my speeds increased through fast sections of singletrack. The bike is part of Norco s Optic Carbon range of mountain bikes. It sports 29' wheels, is priced at 4,499 USD and a SRAM drivetrain. This can’t be the cheapest way to manufacture a bike, but it pays healthy dividends on the trail. The 2020 Norco Optic C2 is an Trail Carbon mountain bike. What’s more, Norco adapts the length of the chainstay according to the frame size, which ensures that each rider will have a similar weight distribution across all frame sizes. The frame itself is stable and balanced, with an ample 480 millimeters of reach on my size large, making it one of the longest bikes I’ve ridden. With 140 millimeters of front suspension and 125 millimeters in the rear, the Optic has just enough travel to keep you hanging on to the handlebars through rough terrain, but not so much that you feel numb to the trail beneath you. My heart was broken when it went back in a box and left the Freehub office. Needless to say, my time on the new Norco Optic C2 felt like a summer fling that was all too short. The 2020 Norco Optic sits squarely in my favorite category of bikes: Those mid-travel trail rigs that blur the lines between a traditional trail bike and an all-mountain brawler. As a guitarist, almost everything in Sonic Youth's catalog has constantly inspired me to find new, creative ways of doing things, something they did better than anyone else. While Sonic Youth’s version has gone on to become one of the most lauded versions of the track, the Carpenters’ surviving member, Richard Carpenter, has famously said he doesn’t particularly care for Sonic Youth’s version of the song. Gone were the light and easy instrumentation, and instead, we were given an excursion into that of the noisy New York alternative rock scene. Likewise, the group’s infamously intricate guitar-tunings were used to create a vibe completely removed from the original. Maintaining the song’s feeling of loss and loneliness, Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore used his vocals to create a dark and moody atmosphere. However, Sonic Youth considered the Carpenters an influence, and dutifully recorded a cover of ‘Superstar’. Now, if one was to look at the Carpenters, often considered a staple of AM-radio easy listening, one would see almost no resemblance to that of Sonic Youth, the highly experimental alternative noise-rock group. In addition to brilliant covers from artists such as Shonen Knife (who covered ‘ Top Of The World‘), and The Cranberries (who covered ‘ (They Long To Be) Close To You‘), was the record’s sole single Sonic Youth’s version of ‘Superstar’. Gone was the soul-styled vocals of the original, and it’s sexual overtones, and instead, Karen Carpenter’s vocals were added into the mix, giving the song a deep feeling of loneliness and loss, as was originally intended by the song’s writers.Īs year’s went by, numerous bands took inspiration from the works of the Carpenters, so much so that a compilation CD was issued in 1994 that saw bands who considered the group as influences, covering their songs. The Carpenters’ version was a hit, with many stating that the Carpenters cover was far superior and emotional than the original. Instead, the song was passed around between numerous musicians until it received a great deal of success thanks to a little duo called the Carpenters, who renamed it ‘ Superstar‘. This B-side was called ‘ Groupie (Superstar)‘, and wasn’t overlooked as many B-sides of the era were. That single featured, as many did, a B-side. Back in 1969, Delaney & Bonnie released the song ‘ Comin’ Home‘. In Hong Kong in 1985, where the hip hop craze had caught on earlier, Donnie Yen displayed the connectivity between the two art forms in the movie Mismatched Couples, in which the martial arts master showed off his popping and locking skills. In many ways, it made sense that the hyper physical movements of breakdance connected with Chinese audiences, as in the US prominent early Bboys claimed that they took inspiration for their power moves from kung fu or martial arts. In 1988, the iconic film Rock n Roll Kids (摇滚青年) - directed by controversial fifth generation filmmaker Tian Zhuangzhuang and starring dancer Tao Jin - was integral in bringing a Chinese slant to the new form of creative expression that was taking the country by storm. This enthusiasm for breakdancing also influenced how hip hop culture was depicted in Chinese productions for the big screen, a year after Breakin’ had become popular. The style and movement of breakdancing as portrayed in the movie caught the imagination and inspired an entire generation of Chinese street dance enthusiasts, with 霹雳舞 or “thunderbolt dance,” as breakdancing came to be known in China, catching on with young Chinese people looking for something new to engage with. The arrival of the 1984 Joel Silberg movie Breakin’ in mainland Chinese cinemas in 1987, during a time of cultural opening up in the country, caused a flurry of excitement for China’s youth. Just like rap music, street dance has a longer history in the country than the sudden rush of hype-laden talent contests now putting under the mainstream spotlight might suggest. With massive stars such as Jackson Wang, Lay Zhang and Wang Yibo lending their influence and dance skills, the show has helped boost street dance from a fringe cultural offering to the mainstream.īut how did hip hop dance initially emerge in China? Modern movies like Hustlers have completely reinvented the dance movie genre and injected the world of exotic dance with even more interesting storytelling possibilities. The third season of dance battle TV show Street Dance of China comes to a close on streaming platform Youku this weekend after a run that has proven to be a phenomenon across the country. Though they have never fallen out of style, the popularity of dance films comes in waves, with certain decades and eras being hotbeds of new and exciting examples of the genre. While many dance movies are skewered by critics for their abundant spectacle but thin plotting, some have transcended even the pickiest pundits to become beloved pieces of cinematic history. As dance itself has grown across the generations, so too has the dance movie by bringing in every type of the art form, from traditional ballet to break dancing and everything in between. Though the definition of a dance film has been stretched by the incorporation of other genre tropes, the typical dance movie has plenty of exquisite choreography and manages to tell a visual story through the art form. By capturing the wonderful spectacle on the big screen, dance movies have been a popular genre since the birth of cinema, and continue to enrapture audiences today. It is during his clash with Jason Yamori that he manifests white hair for the first time in the series. His hair turns white in episode 11 of the first season. This fact does point towards the Marie Antoinette syndrome being a likely factor responsible for the repeated change in his hair. If you’ve watched Tokyo Ghoul past season one, you know that Kaneki is hair turns back into black as he accepts himself as a Ghoul. This could be either due to extreme stress, genetic factors, or viral activity. It could entirely be possible that he does in fact have the Marie Antoinette Syndrome, a condition in which a person’s hair suddenly turns white. Does Kaneki have the Marie Antoinette syndrome? Easily over-powering Jason, he left him brutally injured and gasping for life. It is during that fight, his hair colour changes to white and his nails black. Kaneki unexpectedly took a bite out of Jason, escaped his chains, and battled Yamori. As Kaneki approached his breaking point, Jason arrived to eat him so he could escape the attack of the CCG. It was during that excruciating torture period that Kaneki had developed an internal persona and started communicating with remnants of Rize. Kaneki’s White Hair depicted throughout the series When Jason found out that Kaneki had gained Rize’s abilities through organ transplantation, Yamori(Jason) kidnapped and tortured him for hours on end just for the pleasure of it. We all see him as a docile individual in the beginning of the series, but it isn’t till the sinister event surrounding Rize that he becomes a Half-Ghoul. This changed his hair colour to white as can be seen with elderly people. As his body continuously healed itself at a fast rate due to his Ghoul powers, his cells aged too. His hair turned white due to prolonged torture by Jason. Everyone ends up searching the answer to this intriguing change in his physique, and we’ve aimed this article to answer that query. Fans of Tokyo Ghoul are left bewildered when they witness Ken Kaneki’s hair turn white near the end of episode eleven. |
