Wood talks to his dad almost daily but hasn’t seen much of him because of the social distancing. More stressful than the personal disruption is that his father continues going to his job, an essential worker, being part of the team at a Meijer store in Rochester Hills. Then, he was told to stay home, with only laptop and phone with him and everything else left in North Carolina. While here, the Pontiac Notre Dame Prep graduate was told by his school to stay home for an extra week. “If people need something good in their life, I can help deliver that.”īut by mid-March, he was stuck in his hometown, having come home for spring break. “With the quarantine going on, I realized I have this platform,” Wood said this week. Starting with his Snapchat and Instagram pages, Wood put out a call for this good news as the COVID-19 shut down much of the country, and his network of contacts came through. Matthew Wood, a 19-year-old freshman at the University of North Carolina, needed to get some good news out there, and he used his network of friends, fellow students, former educators, and social media contacts to find what people were doing to thank those who are risking their lives to help those in need.įrom the Waterford Township home he is sharing with his grandfather, he pieced together these small messages of hope and thanks into a 20-minute video he has posted onto YouTube. One local college student is publishing positive messages from others in hope to provide some good news during these unprecedented difficult times of the coronavirus pandemic.
